The YMCA project

The Foundation also invested the following for the YMCA::

  • $150,000 to supplement recovery of startup costs and the first year’s operating budget.
  • $50,000 to purchase AV equipment, chairs and tables, window blinds, lights for auxiliary parking lot,
furniture and games for teen room, etc.
  • $10,000 to help start the funding of the Parrish Branch scholarship fund.

This investment has helped make the branch a financial success and a great resource for Parrish residents.
At the end of its first 18 months of operations the branch had:

  • Over 1,000 memberships.
  • Over 2,500 individuals using the branch.
  • Over 150 individuals and families have benefited with assistance from the Scholarship Fund.
  • Over 40 kids (6 months to 5 years) using the kids zone daily.
  • Over 350 kids enrolled in the various spring sports programs.
  • Over 250 kids in summer camp.
  • Creation of over 50 employment positions at the Parrish branch.
  • Various HOA’s and other Boards using the Community Meeting Room.
  • Growing programs for seniors including mah jongg, bridge and an investment club - all run by an area resident.

Two town hall meetings with U.S. Representative Vern Buchanan as well as two Board Meetings of the
Manatee County Commissionerswere held at the building. None of these meeting could have taken place
without this new building and the funding provided by The Parrish Foundation.
